Welcome to Pilgrim Presbyterian Church in Dover, New Hampshire.  We are a congregation of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church which has been holding worship services in Dover since 2005, drawing families and individuals from the Dover area, Durham, Rochester, and southern Maine.  We are united by our desire to have a biblically faithful church where the Lord is worshipped and the Gospel is proclaimed.  More specifically, we are a Reformed congregation whose doctrine and practice is consistent with the Presbyterian and Reformed tradition which emerged out of the sixteenth century Protestant Reformation.

If you join us for a worship service, you will find that we are not flashy or gimmicky in the ways we approach worship and Christian living.  Instead, we are a small but growing group of people who love the Lord and desire to “glorify God and enjoy him forever” (as the Westminster Confession states it) as we submit ourselves to the authority of the Scriptures.  You will find no perfect people in our congregation, but you will find many people who entrust themselves to a perfect Savior.  You won’t find a majestic church building, but you will find that Jesus Christ is building his church through the means which he has ordained: his Word, the sacraments, and prayer.

We take comfort in the words of our Lord that God is pleased neither by ostentatious formality nor by raucous entertainment but only by those who worship “in Spirit and in truth.”  We also take comfort in the promises that the church yet awaits for her true glorification which will be known in the New Heavens and New Earth upon Christ’s return.

Until that day we seek to live as Christians in obedience to the word of God and in reliance upon the Holy Spirit.  We embrace and proclaim the whole of the Scriptures (Old and New Testaments) as testifying to the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and we believe that the Gospel is God’s power unto salvation for the lost as well as for believers who already know the Lord Jesus Christ.

“Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God!  How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways!  ‘For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been his counselor?’  ‘Or who has given a gift to him that he might be repaid?’  For from him and through him and to him are all things.  To him be glory forever.  Amen.”

Romans 11:33-36

We know visiting a new church can be a bit daunting! With that in mind we have compiled this list of frequently asked questions to give you a sense of what the worship service at Pilgrim is like.

How should I dress?

We do not judge the outward appearance, dressing casually is perfectly acceptable. However we do remind you that we are a church and ask that you dress modestly.

What about my children?

We believe our children are an important part of the Covenant community and as such we do not separate from them during the service of worship. If you need to take your child out we do have a room in which the service can be heard.

What are worship services like?

As we are worshipping the God of the universe we approach him with reverence and awe. We also believe that this in no way precludes our approaching Him with hearts full of joy for all He has done for us in Christ. We sing Psalms and hymns and observe the Lord’s Supper each week. The focal point of the service is the reading and preaching of God’s Word. Ordinarily the Pastor preaches successively through a book of the Bible in an expository fashion, which means we look closely at the words of Scripture in order to understand what the Lord is teaching us.

What times do you meet?

We meet on Sundays at 10:30am and 6:00pm for worship service year round. We have
Sunday school for all ages at 9:15am during the school year.
